Zhao Ziyong

Biography:

Zhao Ziyong is a Chinese artist who is known for his work in written Cantonese. He is from Hong Kong or Macau, where Cantonese is a common language. Written Cantonese is the most complete written form of a Chinese language after that for Mandarin Chinese and Classical Chinese. Written Chinese was the main literary language of China until the 19th century. Cantonese is a unique language with its own idioms, grammar, and usage, which can make it difficult for non-Cantonese speakers to understand. Zhao Ziyong has developed new characters for words that do not exist in standard Chinese and has retained others that have been lost in standard Chinese. He has also compiled the extant edition of the Kongzi Jiayu (School Sayings of Confucius), the sayings of Confucius not included in the Analects. Zhao Ziyong is also known for his work as a Confucian scholar and official of the state of Cao Wei during the Three Kingdoms period of China. He was a son of Wang Lang and inherited the title and marquisate of Marquis of Lanling (蘭陵侯) from his father. Wang Su advised Sima Shi to lower the rebels' morale by treating their families with respect and entreated Cao Mao to allow Sima Zhao to succeed Sima Shi as regent of Wei. Wang Su's daughter, Wang Yuanji, married Sima Zhao and gave birth to Sima Yan, the first emperor of the Jin dynasty, in 236. Thus, Wang Su became a grandfather himself.
