Biography:
Xugu (Zhu Huairen) was a Chinese artist born in Shexian, China in 1823. He was originally an army officer before becoming a Buddhist monk of the Chan (Zen) sect and taking the name Xugu. He was known for his ink and color paintings on paper, often depicting landscapes and figures. Xugu's work has been featured in various museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Art Institute of Chicago. He died in 1896.
