Biography:

Zoubeir Turki was a Tunisian painter and sculptor of Turkish origin. He was born in Tunis in 1924 and died in 2009. Turki studied at the University of Ez-Zitouna, Montfleury, and Institut des Hautes Études, both in the capital. He was the younger brother of Hedi Turki (1922–2019). Turki was known for his unique style that drew inspiration from Tunisian culture and its traditions, portraying characters and scenes of everyday Tunis. His work built a collective memory of Tunisia and earned him international recognition. Turki was also a sculptor and created the bronze statue of Ibn Khaldun, erected on Avenue Habib Bourguiba, where the School of Tunis was founded in 1949. He also created the fresco in the lobby of the House of Tunisian radio.
