Pieter Jacobsz. Codde was known for his technically skilled painting style, which is evident in his works such as Dancing Lesson, now in the Louvre, and Musical Company of 1639.

Pieter Jacobsz. Codde's earliest known work is a piece from 1626, Portrait of a Young Man, now in the Ashmolean.
He also painted historical religious works, such as Adoration of the Shepherds, from 1645, in the Rijksmuseum of Amsterdam.
Pieter Jacobsz. Codde was commissioned to complete an unfinished work by Frans Hals, Officers of the Company of the Amsterdam Crossbow Civic Guard Under Captain Reynier Reael and Lieutenant Cornelis Michielsz. Blaeuw, which is now known as The Meagre Company.
