Semióticas del tiempo is composed of a dyptych and four objects that testimony the gesture of the performatic event of firing flares. The images show two moments: first comes time, followed by the ephemeral and unmeasurable instant when the smoke vanishes. The cardboard shells, used and labelled, are the only witnesses of the event. This work is part of a project called “Señales de humo para otros mundos” (Smoke signals for other worlds) in which the desolated Patagonian nature is the stage. The smoke signals are a primal communication form used to transmit a message despite of the distance. Their orange color responds to the international SOS code, and they will be read as a call for help or geographic indication. The expansion of smoke, its orientation, concentration or diffusion are key premises of a happening that questions about the relations between landscape and subject, nature and artifice, likeliness, or unlikeliness of the encounter.
