In 1932, Schwinn instantly rendered obsolete all 1920s 28″ wooden-wheeled bicycles by introducing a new generation of balloon-tire 26″ metal-wheeled bicycles. Every manufacturer quickly followed suit. Now all Richmond vehicles – bicycles, motorcycles, cars and trains – had to combine the latest technological advances with the newest styles. Fashion creates a consumer desire for the latest style leading to new sales that allowed Richmond firms to survive during the Great Depression.
