Terry Fox is one of the central figures of West Coast performance art, the Conceptual Art movement and Fluxus, all major trends in both the US and European art scenes during the late 1960s and early 1970s. He studied painting at the Cornish School of Allied Arts in Seattle, and later at the Academia Di Belli Arti in Rome. Before permanently moving to Europe, he lived in San Francisco in 1968. His works include performances, street actions, videos, sound installations, objects and installations based on the conceptual experiments he carried out in relation to the use of the body, sound, and language. Starting with the 1980s, linguistic games become increasingly prominent in Terry Fox’s production. Letters, words, terms, symbols and textual structures such as riddles, ancient scripts, or news headlines form the main components of his sculptures.
